History

SIA VK Tranzīts was founded in November 2003, and initially the main economic activities of the company were the forwarding and handling of ammonia and light oil products.

Today SIA VK Tranzīts is a holding company, which unites several of the largest companies of the Freeport of Ventspils: biodiesel, rapeseed oil and rapeseed cake producer SIA Bio-Venta, SIA VK Terminal Services, which provides the handling of ammonia, light oil products and other chemical products, SIA VK Ekspedīcija, which provides railway freight forwarding and agency services.

The holding has unique technological equipment and an experienced team of specialists; more than 430 employees. The level of technical and technological capabilities and knowledge of employees allows one to ensure a high quality of service and operative service that meets the customer's needs, optimising and adjusting cargo handling processes.

SIA Bio-Venta

SIA Bio-Venta was founded in 2004. SIA VK Tranzīts started investing in the capital of the company in May 2005 as a minority shareholder. The construction of the biodiesel plant was started in 2006 and was successfully completed in 2008, when the plant was commissioned and biodiesel production began. SIA Bio-Venta is the largest biodiesel production complex in the Baltic states, with a maximum capacity of 100,000 tonnes of biodiesel per annum. The plant also produces rapeseed oil - up to 35,000 t/year, feed rapeseed cakes - up to 65,000 t/year, pharmaceutical grade glycerine - up to 9,000 t/year and mineral fertilisers (potassium sulphate) - up to 1,600 t/year.

SIA VK Ekspedīcija

In 2005, a decision was made to change the economic activity of SIA VK Tranzīts to the holding and in October of the same year a subsidiary SIA VK Ekspedīcija was established, which continued with forwarding ammonia, light oil products and now the cargo required for biodiesel production, ammonia cargo transhipment and wholesale of ammonia and methanol.

SIA VK Terminal Services

In November 2007, SIA VK Tranzīts invested in the capital of SIA VK Terminal Services (former name SIA Ventamonjaks serviss), which provides a wide range of services to several port terminals: unloading of liquid ammonia, petroleum and chemical products as well as biodiesel and raw materials required for its production and their storage in shore tanks, assembly and loading of cargo batches in tankers and railway tanks. The company has its own energy supply, repair mechanics, fire and rescue, environmental and labour protection as well as laboratory services.
